Although there is no entitlemen t to expenses, leave should be applied for in the same manner as normal study leave for courses etc. The Yorkshire Deans advise one week (5 days) of private study leave only per six months, and the GPST concerned must report back to the clinical tutor an d consultant supervisor at the end of the leave to see if educational objectives are achieved. Private study leave, if part of a formal education target previously agreed with an educational supervisor, is more likely to receive official support, but it can be granted at GPST short notice in cases of exam nerves etc. In exceptional circumstances, a trainee may conduct private study leave elsewhere than their normal home (i.e at Parent\rquote s home etc). However the GPST should remain in the UK. If a trainee i ntends to do this, they must ask permission from their consultant supervisor, and the clinical tutor. Otherwise a trainee must remain in the local area, and be available to return to work in the event of a major incident or if a colleague goes off sick et c.
